The IK-3 prototype is finished in the Spring of 1938. and the first test flight was made on April 14.th 1938. The plane was flown by Captain Milan Bjelanovic and the other pilots from the Test Group. On January 19th 1939. the aircraft crashed which resulted in the death of the test pilot, Captain Milan Pokorni.

Prototype of this advanced trainer was built during 1938. After extensive testing plane was accepted by Royal Yugoslav Air Force (RYAF) and two batches were ordered. First batch was of 10 and second of 15 airframes. Aircraft of the second batch were equipped with single Darne 7,7 mm machinegun.

The Utva-75 was the main training aircraft of the Yugoslav Air Force and Aero Club from 1978. till present day. Designed by the army requirements, Utva-75 is mainly used for basic training, glider towing and aero rallyes at Yugoslav Aero clubs. Aircraft is capable for basic aerobatics, instrumental flying and can cary two underwing tanks or gun/bomb pods.
